Musical Rehearsals Amp Up

Mamma Mia, here we go again! It’s that time of the year- musical season is amping up, and so is the rehearsal process. The students and tech crew, who received their parts in April and have been preparing for the show since August, have put in tons of work, including 10 hour weekend rehearsals. But, they’ve managed to have fun along the way; Nick Cartwright, for instance, says that he’s “really excited for this musical, and this has been such a fun learning experience.”

The show opens with the ensemble portraying a day in Greece. With the magical lighting cues and the set created by the amazing tech crew, the audience is immediately drawn into the story, which follows Sophie, played by Alexa Signorelli, on her journey to find her father. A quick synopsis of the musical;

“On a small Greek island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn’t know who he is! Her mother Donna, played by Hannah Weinman, the former lead singer of the 1970s pop group Donna and the Dynamos, played by Samantha Sardina and Zoe Tait, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, played by Jay Suresh, Bill, played by Preston Rowely, and Harry, played by Oliver Tipler. She secretly invites all three to the wedding, convinced that she’ll know her father when she sees him. But when all three turn up, it may not be as clear as she thought!”

Mamma Mia! is told through the music of ABBA and features some of Abba’s most popular songs, including Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Knowing Me Knowing You, and Waterloo. By the end of this musical, the entire audience will be singing and dancing alongside the cast.
