Using Technology to Stay Connected

Now more than ever, it is easy to feel isolated and cut off from your friends and community. However, thanks to today’s technology and our increasing knowledge of the world around us, we have lots of ways to stay connected. One big way for people our age to stay connected is through social media.

Social media has been present in our lives for as long as our generation can remember, and has allowed us to stay in touch with people all across the globe. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Youtube let us keep in contact with people from all different walks of life and can inspire us to try new activities while we are at home, such as painting or baking. These platforms can also be used as new outlets to spread information about world events to help keep us informed and offer us a new perspective. During this time though, the most popular way of staying in touch is through Facetime or Zoom.

Facetime and Zoom allow everyone to see each other face to face and gives everyone a much more casual and personal look into each others lives, and allows for as much as a real life interaction as you can get. One great way to hang out together is to have lunch over Facetime, so it feels like we are back at school again. Another new way of staying connected is through Netflix Party, which allows everyone to watch the same Netflix movie/show at the same time with a chat box. It gives everyone a chance to have a movie night together. Our generation has grown up surrounded by technology and the media, and I know that even in isolation all of us will find ways to stay connected.
